It was late in 1933 when a group of 20 people interested in playing squash decided to set up a club.

Land was purchased in Malloch Street in the Maryhill district of Glasgow, which is still its home, and work began on the building of two courts  and changing accommodation in March, 1934.

The club was formally opened in October, 1934 - productivity must have been higher back then – and the total cost was £2,700.  130 members joined at that time.

As it was the very first private members club in Scotland the grand name of The Scottish Squash Rackets Club was chosen.

During the war the club was forced to close when it was requisitioned, but the growth continued after the war was over.

In 1964, two more courts were added and another twelve years later there was a major extension which cost £52,000.  At this time another two courts were added taking the number of courts to six.  At the same time the tiny bar area was improved and turned into a comfortable lounge and also the changing rooms were totally transformed.
